Ice Fishing Reports
In the Ludington area the most popular areas for ice fishing are Pere Marquette Lake and Hamlin Lake.
With the extreme cold nights, there's substantial ice and the men continue to go out for crappie. Evening has been best. Minimal fish being caught, but we're looking for a big turnaround and more fish with the upcoming change in weather. A few bluegill are hitting, but lots of hours needed to catch. Tackle being used: demon glows, teardrops, dj lures of different sizes and colors.
We've had about 2-3 dozen men in the store today who have been fishing Upper Hamlin near Wilson Hill Park. They report that they're catching 8-10" bluegills, though they aren't limiting out. Fishing is reported to be better in the morning.
The water has cleared up after the rain. Pike are still being caught off the Yacht Club on tipups with Smelt or Golden Shiners. The Perch are in! People are catching them on Wigglers and minnows off of Copeyan Park.
Kevin Morlock from Indigo Guide Service reports that Steelies are being caught in the PM River from Gleasons down to Scottville. They're also hitting on Slammers at the back end of PM Lake.
The water is still a little murky in some places. Reports of gills and crappie off of Wilson Hill Park hitting waxies, spikes, and minnows. The walleye are hitting on blue shiners on Rattlin flyers or Jiggin Raps in front of North Bayou and by Hobbycrest
There are reports that perch fishing is good on Pentwater Lake using wigglers and emerald shiners. They are slamming steelhead on the southern side of PM Lake using spawn or blue shiners. Fishing 7-10 feet of water on Northern PM Lake off the point by the Yacht Club is good for spearing and tip-ups using golden shiners as bait. There haven't been any reports of perch on PM Lake. The water is starting to clear up, so the numbers should be better in a week or so.
