The Gettin' Jiggy Ice Fishing Tournament is held every February at Pere Marquette Expeditions in Ludington. This coincides with Michigan's Free Fishing Weekend.
They open at 5:30am, with the tournament starting at 7am. All DNR rules apply, and you can fish any Michigan lake. Tournament takes place whether there is ice or not. In 2016, there were 38 entries in 15 degree temperatures. The three first place finishers were: Brent Doggett with a 15 1/16" crappie, Bill Briggs with a 10 5/16" bluegill and Nate Nummerdor with a 12 1/8" perch.
Entry fee is $10...and there is a 100% payout for the longest fish in each category: Bluegill, Crappie, and Perch. You must be in line for measuring by 6pm. At the end of the tournament, free hot dogs will be served at Sutton's Landing down at the river and is included in your entry fee.
